Washington, D.C. (November 12, 2010) -- Today, Syngenta highlights its celebration of the company’s 10th anniversary by embarking on an ambitious program to feed 10,000 families in the United States.
“To commemorate our anniversary, and to give back to the communities where we work each day, Syngenta has established a domestic hunger relief program that will help feed 10,000 families,” said Jessica Adelman, vice president, Corporate Affairs, North America. For this endeavor, company business units are making financial donations to Feeding America on behalf of Syngenta. Employees can also make personal contributions through financial donations as well as food drives scheduled at various Syngenta locations. The campaign, “Celebrating 10 Years by feeding 10,000 families” starts today and continues through year-end.
Additionally, Chief Executive Officer Mike Mack, members of the Syngenta Executive Committee, U.S. company leaders and employees from across the North American business units will take part in the closing bell ringing activities at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: SYT) today.
Since its inception, the company has been focused on bringing plant potential to life to help farmers meet significant global challenges. “At Syngenta, we know a major challenge for the 21st century is feeding the world’s growing population, while safeguarding our natural resources in the process,” Adelman explained. “To do this, we are helping farmers grow more from less—preserving land and water, and reducing the carbon footprint in agriculture so that we and future generations can enjoy food security.”
Syngenta’s goal to feed 10,000 families as part of its10th anniversary celebration is just one example of how the company is taking an active role in helping address food security challenges right in the communities where its employees live and work in the U. S. In addition to this endeavor, Syngenta recently donated $100,000 to 55 food banks in 24 states as part of its Weeding out HungerTM campaign with Halex® GT herbicide and is continuing that program in 2011. Programs like these are a reminder of the meaning of the name Syngenta, derived from Greek and Latin origins: together with people.
With the global population expected to increase to nine billion people by 2050, the world’s grain production must double. As a company, Syngenta is helping meet these farming challenges by delivering innovative solutions through science and technology, to meet the world’s changing needs for food, feed, fuel and fiber with the commitment of its employees around the world.
